The Stakes

Right now, the rightwing holds a trifecta in Georgia. And while state lawmakers in the legislative minority have introduced life-improving policies for Georgians, they don’t have the votes to pass them. Instead, rightwing lawmakers have:

• Stalled broadly popular policies to protect renters from unsafe housing conditions and hidden rental fees;
• Attempted to restrict Georgians’ freedom to make reproductive healthcare decisions with their doctors;
• Allowed data center development to drive up Georgians’ utility costs.

With rightwing majorities in both chambers and in the Governor’s seat, there is no check on the their power, including the ability to draw new Congressional maps ahead of 2028.

The Opportunity

With all 180 House seats up for election this November, there is a longshot opportunity for a flip. Narrowing the 18-seat margin in the Georgia House will allow state lawmakers to work strategically across the aisle to deliver policy solutions that improve lives, and lay the groundwork for future power-building opportunities.

Some of these races will be decided by a tiny number of votes. In a year when the environment is good, we cannot afford to leave the opportunity to check the rightwing’s power in Georgia on the table.
