BREAKING: The States Project Announces Unexpected Chamber Flip in North Carolina State House

Nov 3, 2026

The States Project was the largest funder in the North Carolina State House. The States Project has been investing in North Carolina since 2018.

NEW YORK — The States Project is now projecting a majority in the North Carolina State House for the first time since 2010. The States Project raised a record breaking $100 million to support state legislative efforts this cycle and was the top funder in the North Carolina State House. In response to the news, The States Project Executive Director Mandara Meyers released the following statement:

“Thisis a stunning victory and rebuke of years of rightwing extremism in North Carolina. The States Project exists to power every state legislative win that is possible and we expanded our map this year to capitalize on the opportunity to end rightwing control. Thanks to The States Project’s big bet, tonight there is a new majority in the NC State House that has been under rightwing control for more than a decade. While we’re still waiting on the full picture of state legislative results from across the country, this election could mark the first time we’ve been able to build back real power in the states since the seismic Republican wave in 2010.”
